MIA SLOTH MØLLER

Mia Sloth Møller was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.

Mia is fascinated by colors, how they can change space and how they can affect us. She works intensely with abstract painting, and she circles around subjects that come straight from the heart; emotions and moods.

Mia works primarily on paper and canvas. In recent years she has become very fond of working in smaller formats, but for many years her favorite format has been the large gable murals painted directly on city buildings. You can see these gable paintings in many places in Vordingborg municipality; in Stege, Klintholm Havn, Vordingborg and Jungshoved. And the latest and also the largest mural of 500 m2 is in Offenbach am Main in Germany. This was a collaboration with Fabian Vogler.

'In recent years it has been exciting and inspiring for me to work and exhibit together with my husband, Fabian. We experience again and again that our works play really well together, even though our expressions are very different,' says Mia Sloth Møller.

FABIAN VOGLER

After training as a sculptor in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and completing a three year apprenticeship as a wood sculptor in Flensburg,  Fabian Vogler studied sculpture with the Austrian figurative sculptor Gerda Fassel at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Lastly he completed his Masters at the University of East London with Grenville Davey.

His passion is the creation of the human figure in multi-dimensional space. He finds so-called "superforms", human figures that integrate diverse, overarching themes from the history of mankind and art – in order to depict the human being as multi-layered as possible.

The main inspiration for Fabian's figures is drawn from archaeological findings, such as the prehistoric Venus depictions and idol figurines, e.g. the Venus von Willendorf or von Hohle Fels and Cycladic idol figures. Also enthnological artifacts, such as Dogu ceramics or sculptures from Africa or Oceania are always a grand influence.

His preferred material is bronze. The plaster originals for the bronze casting are created by casting everyday objects, such as balloons, inflatable balloons, inflatable toys and packaging, but also from digitally designed and 3D-printed objects.

Since meeting Mia there has come a grand (re)understanding and -discovering of the beauty and energy of colors. It has come more and more into his sculptures and presentational work.

Fabian also has a studio in Sydsleswig in northern Germany in Bargum, which Mia and Fabian also use jointly. He regularly takes part in national and international exhibitions as well as artist symposia and residencies. His works can be found in public spaces as well as in public and private collections.

A LOVE STORY ...MEANT TO BE !

Mia and Fabian met in 2019 at an artist symposium of the Danisch-German artist group DEN BEVAEGENDE KUFFERT. They were struck by lightning for one another and it showed clearly that they had to be together. But for making that possible they had to change all their existing lives.

For sure not an easy journey but opening their hearts to much wider perceptions of life and love. And with the understanding of all the loved ones around them they now have their home and studio together on the magical isle of Møn.

LOCATION & HISTORY

HEARTSPACE MØN is situated just before Hjertebjerg (Heart Mountain), a few kilometers outside of Stege, which is the capital of the Isle of Møn, an island south of Kopenhagen, connected to the main land by two bridges.

MØNS KLINT

HEARTSPACE MØN is located on the way to the famous Møns Klint, a limestone and chalk cliff that stretches over 6 km along the east coast of the island. The highest cliff Dronningestolen reaches up to 128 m above sea level. A beautiful walk down wooden stairs takes you to the beach where one can find amazing fossils and uniquely shaped stones.

Saftstation Pollerup 1884

The historical site of our HEARTSPACE originates from 1884 and was built as one of five juicing stations for sugar beet on and around the island. The sugar juice was then sent via pipelines to the sugar factory in Stege – also a architectual jewel of progressing industrialization.

Funnily enough the first studio Mia and Fabian had together was exactly there –in the Sugar Tower of the old factory. They had their studio there from 2020-23 on the first floor just above Flügger Farver.

Here at the sugar factory you can also still find Mia's first ever created large scale mural called Sugar Beet.

Stege Sugar factory

The Saftstation was in action juicing sugar beet into the 1930s.

Then it was used as a factory for making cloth. In 1939 large parts of the building caught fire.

The remains were thereafter taken over by the Danish Home Guard (Hjemmeværnet). They rebuilt it within four years in honorary work into its current state.
